Course Overview

This course is your first step into service and maintenance within the Totally Integrated Automation (TIA) Portal. We provide you with foundational knowledge of the SIMATIC S7 automation system structure, the handling of the TIA Portal software, and the principles of hardware configuration and parameterisation.

You will learn the basics of programming and receive an introduction to HMI systems and communication over PROFINET IO and PROFIBUS, empowering you to reduce plant downtime through effective troubleshooting.

Course Content

This TIA Portal service training combines theory with practical exercises to build your confidence and competence.

  • SIMATIC S7 System Family: Get an overview of the S7-1200/S7-1500 systems and their key features.
  • The TIA Portal Components: Understand the roles of STEP 7, WinCC, and communication settings.
  • Programme Execution: Learn how the PLC executes a programme.
  • Core Logic: Implement fundamental binary and digital operations.
  • System Assembly: Learn the correct setup, addressing, and wiring of signal modules.
  • Hardware & Software Commissioning: Perform a full hardware and software commissioning of a SIMATIC S7 system within the TIA Portal.
  • Hardware Configuration: Practise hardware configuration and parameterisation.
  • HMI Introduction: Get familiar with a modern HMI Touch Panel.
  • PROFINET IO: Set up and parameterise a PROFINET IO system with an integrated HMI.
  • Documentation: Learn how to save and document programme changes professionally.
Target Group

This course is ideal for technicians, engineers, and service personnel responsible for commissioning and maintenance on S7-1200 and S7-1500 based systems. Please note, it is not suitable for individuals working with older S7-300 or S7-400 systems.
